About the Opportunity

The OPAL Engineering team is responsible for ensuring that OPAL plant systems and components are operated and maintained to achieve optimum performance of the reactor and its associated facilities, while maintaining ongoing compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

OPAL Engineering is seeking a mechanical engineer to join the team in the role as ‘OPAL Systems Engineer’ working on maintenance strategy and strategic asset management of allocated plant systems.

Reporting to the Mechanical & Process Engineering Group Leader, the OPAL Systems Engineer works within a team of engineers and collaborates with a diverse range of stakeholders within ANSTO to develop comprehensive and practical engineering solutions to solve problems and continually improve the design, operation and maintenance of the OPAL process/mechanical systems.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assume delegated responsibility for engineering design and configuration, and for providing decision support on maintenance and capital investment strategies, for allocated OPAL plant systems.
  • Provide engineering expertise and advice in relation to system design, operation and maintenance issues.
  • Formulate and document capital investment and maintenance strategies for OPAL plant systems in collaboration with stakeholders, applying risk-based decision-making practices and balancing performance, cost and risk.
  • Prepare and review documentation and systems to support the delivery of asset maintenance strategies by technicians, including maintenance plans, work instructions, spare parts requirements, technical manuals and other information.
  • Undertake plant upgrade and renewal projects in accordance with project management, technical and change control requirements within a highly regulated framework.
  • Review and investigate system faults, formulate and record lessons learned, and implement continuous improvement through corrective and preventive actions.
  • Undertake assigned maintenance tasks as per system maintenance strategies and associated documentation.
