The Minerals business is a part of ANSTO’s Commercial Products and Services cluster. We are a team of around 60 consultants and technicians with expertise that covers metallurgy, chemistry, chemical engineering, mineralogy, geology and radiation safety. ANSTO’s Minerals business provides practical solutions and innovative technologies to deliver financial and environmental benefits to the mining and metallurgy industries. Sectors that we work in includes important critical minerals such as rare earths, lithium, uranium and a plethora of others. We are also specialists in addressing the challenges associated with radioactivity issues in this context.
About the Opportunity
The Metallurgical Process Technician provides technical and mechanical support for the setup and operation of metallurgical pilot plants.
Our workload varies and we require additional support during certain times or for specific projects.

Your Duties and Responsibilities
- Assembly, operation and maintenance of metallurgical pilot plant and laboratory equipment.
- Liaise with internal staff, and external contractors to ensure compliance with both safety and operational requirements.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in the assembly, operation, maintenance and modification of industrial, chemical or metallurgical plant equipment.
- Operational experience working with minerals, chemicals, preferably in the context of chemical or refinery processes.
- Mechanical trade, metallurgical or chemical technician qualification or equivalent hands-on experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
- Good communication and team-work skills
- Skills in Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel, Outlook, Access.
- Experience in data base operating systems for use in sample and equipment storage and recording.
