About the Opportunity

 

This role is primarily responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of a suite of wet chemistry laboratories and a large instrument laboratory capable of handling low to intermediate levels of radioactivity. The instrument laboratory contains a large suite of gamma-ray spectrometers, a liquid scintillation counter and a gross alpha and beta counter.  

About You

I am seeking an enthusiastic and skilled analyst with an aptitude for problem solving and multi-tasking, and possesses high attention to detail. The new recruit will work with a dynamic and diverse group of technical and research staff, and will possess a passion for safety as they work across multiple laboratories each with their own chemical and radiological hazards - Sangeeth Thiruvoth, Radioanalytical Chemistry Capability Manager

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform gamma-ray spectral analysis, data analysis and complex data calculations
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory and detection equipment including gamma-ray spectrometers, liquid scintillation counters and gross alpha and beta counters
  • Sample preparation for analytical and experimental work
  • Maintain adequate supply of laboratory equipment, consumables, and chemicals
  • Dispose of active and inactive waste
  • Develop and maintain compliance documentation
  • Train staff and users in gamma-ray spectrometry techniques and safe and compliant laboratory work practises
  • Liaise with clients to provide analytical guidance, updates, and schedules
