Position Overview

  • Base Salary $107k - $120k +15.4% super

About the Opportunity

The Safety Engineer - Advisor & Reliability Risk Adviser, specialising in electro-mechanical engineering and functional safety, is to take a key role in the delivery of services undertaken by the section, including; the application and development of safety risk assessments, ensuring that safety engineering techniques are embedded at all stages of a facility development and the provision of sound technical advice in systems, plant and process safety and regulatory compliance to support ANSTO’s strategic direction.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilise knowledge and technical expertise to provide safety analysis and advice, utilising relevant hazard identification methods, undertaking formal safety engineering assessments, risk assessments, SIL assessments, and support the development of the safety analysis report relevant sections.
  • Lead hazard identification and risk assessment workshops employing techniques such as Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard Operability (HAZOP) studies and structured what-if analysis.
  • Contribute to safety in design by active participation in design reviews applying sound engineering knowledge and principles and past experience.
  • Apply techniques such as Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), risk graphs or similar in the determination of reliability requirements for safety interlocks and other engineering controls.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders ensuring clarity, accuracy of information and confidentiality requirement whilst ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the strategic projects including the production of quality technical reports, engineering safety assessments, that meet agreed budget timeframes, schedules and client requirements.
  • Assist in procedure development to contribute to the improvement of ANSTO safety management processes and safety culture.
