About the Opportunity
Working in the safety systems and reliability team, you will be providing safety engineering and risk analysis expertise across operating facilities and capital projects.
You will be leading workshops, applying and extending current risk and reliability techniques with sound technical advice to ensure that services delivered are in line with regulatory compliance and safety standards. The contributions from this role will support ANSTO’s strategic direction.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
- Independently conduct safety assessments of facilities, process, plant, equipment and experiments utilising technical and analytical skills; and expertise in applied hazard and risk assessment (including both qualitative and semi-quantitative)
- Utilise specialist knowledge and technical expertise to provide expert systems safety analysis and advice on nuclear waste management to internal and external agencies, lead proposed changes and solutions to engineering safety systems.
- Develop and review engineering and technical documentation and develop position papers that support the requirements of the client, external regulatory authorities (ARPANSA, Comcare) and for submission to the ANSTO’s Safety and Reliability Assurance process.
- Manage, lead, conduct and review safety analyses using a range of internationally accepted techniques in hazard identification, reliability, and risk analysis.

Selection criteria
- Engineering degree qualifications (Process/chemical, Electrical or Instrument and Controls preferred)
- Eligible for membership of Institute of Engineers Australia
- Significant experience with hazard identification methods (FMEA, HAZOP, FTA, LOPA) and Proven experience in leading and facilitating HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA workshops
- Demonstrated ability in leading assignments using project management methodologies to deliver quality and fit-for-purpose outcomes
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Experience in stakeholder and customer management
- Strong writing, computer and analytical skills
- Functional Safety, and expert knowledge of systems, safety and reliability in the nuclear and radiological industry would be highly desirable.
