If you are completing a degree in Science and are keen to apply your knowledge in a real-world research environment, the ANSTO Year in Industry (YII) Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to build practical experience alongside leading scientists and engineers.
Designed for penultimate-year students, this 12-month full-time program, commencing in July 2026, provides hands-on, industry-based learning. You will apply your academic knowledge in a professional setting while developing skills and experience that will enhance the value of your remaining studies and future career.
Important: This is a full-time placement, and participants are required to defer their university studies for the duration of the program.
Your Placement
As an intern within ANSTO’s Centre for Accelerator Science (CAS), you will:
- Work in specialised chemistry and analytical laboratories
- Support sample preparation, processing, and analysis workflows
- Develop skills in scientific instrumentation and laboratory procedures
- Contribute to data collection, validation, and reporting within a research environment
- Gain exposure to world-class advanced analytical techniques such as Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS)
This placement provides a unique opportunity to work within Australia’s leading nuclear science and technology infrastructure.
Eligibility & Application
Preferred fields of study:
• Chemistry
• Earth Science
• Environmental Science
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen
- Be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical assessment
- Be currently enrolled in a relevant science-related degree, ideally in their penultimate year
- Be available to undertake a full-time, 12-month placement and commit to deferring university studies for the duration of the program
